As cosplay gets more and more popular, certain trends begin to emerge. Where the anime characters are all the rage in Japan (even gaining a lot of popularity in the United States), other movies are seeing a great following of cosplayers in America.
The most well known cosplay in America are the Star Trek cosplayers. With conventions taking place over the past few decades, die hard fans have been taking dressing up like characters of the show to the extreme. These people used to be thought to be out of the mainstream, however with movies such as Star Wars, The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, and video games such as Halo, more and more people are dawning cosplay gear.
Star wars has gained great popularity with cosplayers over this past decade. With the release of three new episodes in the Star Wars saga, fans found a new venue to dress up as their favorite characters. At movie premiers and events around the world, cosplayers showed up in droves decked out in the most elaborate cosplay gear.
Lord of the Rings has seen its share of cosplayers as well. At conventions held yearly across the states, fans of the movies are given a chance to become the characters in the movies.
These are only three examples of an emerging hobby sweeping the United States. As long as there are characters in movies that people aspire to be, there will be people bringing those characters to life as cosplayers.
